This week, the international community has been appalled to learn that Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir, indicted by the International Court for genocide and crimes against humanity, has requested a visa to enter the U.S. next week for UN General Assembly meetings. Clearly, Bashir belongs at the Hague facing trial, not at the UN General Assembly with other heads of state.
Please help prevent this terrible travesty of justice.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has the authority to waive the obligation of the US to issue the visa and President Bashir’s immunity while in the U.S. The International Justice Project has sent a letter to the Secretary General and Samantha Power, US Representative to the United Nations, requesting him to do so, along with the applicable international law.
